HOW IT WORKS
How Menus AI reads your files
When you attach a PDF or Office document, Menus AI extracts its text. Up to 256 KB of extracted text is kept per document and read in pages as the task needs it, so long documents are not limited to their first pages.
If a document is too long and the extracted text has to be cut, the truncation is stated explicitly instead of being hidden.
Analysis works on text and table values. Page layout, images and charts inside a document are not interpreted.
KNOW THE LIMITS
What the file analyzer does not do
- Scanned PDFs without a text layer are not read. Run OCR on them first, then upload the result.
- Images, audio and video files are not supported as attachments.
- Spreadsheet formulas are not re-evaluated; cell values are read as text and numbers.
- Python runs with its standard library in an isolated sandbox, without network access or extra packages.
- Do not upload passwords, payment card details or material you are not allowed to share.

Questions and answers
Which files can the AI file analyzer read?
PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx) and PowerPoint (.pptx) documents, plus text, Markdown, CSV, JSON, YAML, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript and Python files.
How large can a file be?
PDF and Office documents can be up to 5 MB each and 10 MB combined. Text and code files can be up to 12 KB each. You can attach up to 5 files per task.
Can it read scanned PDFs?
No. A scanned PDF has no text layer to extract. Run OCR on the file first and upload the version that contains text.
Can it analyze Excel data?
Yes. Menus AI reads the cell values of an .xlsx file and can calculate totals, averages and comparisons with Python or JavaScript, then save the result as a new spreadsheet.
What happens to my files?
Attached files are used for your task and stay with the conversation in your account. Deleting the conversation clears its attachments and results.
Is the file analyzer free?
You can try it for free. Eligible new accounts receive 20 welcome credits, and a file task reserves up to 8 credits and returns what it does not use.
